Under the warm weather in November, while the farmers across the school are busy harvesting the crops of the year, we at school are telling kids why they should be thankful not just during thanksgiving, but throughout their lives.

The tradition of thanksgiving is not that well known by the kids in Taiwan; therefore, a brief historical introduction was mandatory. The Mayflower, the kind Indians, and the turkey were all new to them. But the idea of being thankful was familiar; it has surpassed culture, race, and nationality. Feudalism from ancient China has the idea of being thankful and it still affects how Chinese people think. Aboriginals in Taiwan celebrate their harvest every year. So then having turkey has become less important, but “thank” and “giving” are the spirit.

The activity then moves on with a spelling check, with the voice of joy, which is all we care about as educational personnel.
