It’s the month of November, so that means it’s time for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving in the USA is the 4th Thursday of November.
The first Thanksgiving dinner was 1620 in the US state of Massachusetts.
Many students in the US learn that the first Thanksgiving dinner was a peaceful dinner between English colonists and Native Americans called the Wampanoag.
The real history is more complicated than that, and we don’t learn much about Native Americans. So today ,we will learn 3 facts about Native Americans.
1. There are between 500 and 1000 Native American tribes in the USA. Different tribes can have very different cultures from each other.
2. Across the USA and Canada, many Native American groups will have large community festivals called powwows. The powwows often show many kinds of Native American foods, dances, and types of clothing.
3. Native American groups across North and South America were the first people to grow many of today’s most popular fruits and vegetables. These include corn, pumpkins, tomatoes, potatoes, and cocoa beans.
